Wheeler Branch Lake Fishing Guide
Angling Opportunities
Wheeler Branch Lake is a 180-acre reservoir offering fishing for Largemouth bass, Smallmouth bass, Channel catfish and more. Spring and fall are peak seasons across all species.
Cover & Structure
Typically very clear water with lots of flooded trees, rock outcroppings, laydowns, and rocky shorelines. The riprap along the dam also holds a variety of fish species. Numerous brush piles exist throughout the reservoir as well.
Tips & Tactics
Largemouth bass fishing is best during spring and fall when water temperatures range from the mid-50s to the mid-70s. From March through May, fish are in shallow water 2 to 15 feet deep. At this time of year, bass are caught along shorelines and in coves on spinner baits, topwater baits, plastic worms, and crank baits. From June through August, largemouths are usually found at depths of 10 to 20 feet, but some may remain at shallow depths during the day. Productive baits include plastic worms and deep-diving crank baits.
Fishing Regulations
Special bass limits and gear restrictions are in effect. Boats are allowed, but no gas-powered motors. Electric trolling motors are permitted.
