Waco Lake Fishing Guide

Angling Opportunities

Waco Lake is a 8,465-acre reservoir offering fishing for Largemouth Bass, Channel & Blue Catfish, Flathead Catfish and more. Spring and fall are peak seasons across all species.

Cover & Structure

The main lake shoreline has lots of submerged timber that holds fish year-round, except during low water levels. The North and South Bosque rivers also have lots of standing timber and laydowns. This lake of the North, Middle, and South Bosque Rivers is dominated by natural shorelines, including bedrock, clay/silt, and sand and gravel flats.

Tips & Tactics

Largemouth bass fishing is at its best in March and April. Coves protected from the north wind, and the backs of creeks, are excellent places to look for spawning bass at this time of year. White or chartreuse spinner baits and black/blue or black/chartreuse jig and pork combinations are the preferred baits. From May through September, look for bass on windy points on the main lake and flats next to river channels. Hog and Flatrock creeks are also good at this time of year.

Fishing Regulations

Waco Lake has special regulations on some fishes. Check current TPWD regulations before your trip.
